Pride of Democracy International delegation meets MEPs

BRUSSELS: In the light of the prevailing situation in Pakistan, a delegation of Pride of Democracy International led by Chairman Umer Memon met leading MEPs Michael Gahler, head of elections observation mission Pakistan Jean Lambert, head of South Asian delegation and Sajjad Karim spokesman of legal affairs ECR group in the European Parliament today.

18 October marks the day when Benazir Bhutto was attacked in Karachi and more than 200 hundred political workers of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) died.

The delegation consisted of President Riaz Khan, Secretary General Saifullah Saify and Chief coordinator Europe Malik Ajmal.

Various issues were discussed by the delegation with MEPs on the establishment of Pride of Democracy especially about strengthening the democracy in Pakistan from POD's platform.

During the meeting, Michael Gahler told the delegation emotionally that he was supposed to meet Benazir Bhutto on the evening of 27th December 2007, but unfortunately, he couldn't due to her assassination. He added that he will never forget that day.

The MEPs were quite impressed with the initiative of the Pride of Democracy and assured the delegation of their complete cooperation and support to strengthen the democratic system in Pakistan.
