Why care?
Why should we care about the Jan. 6 hearings when gas costs so much? Because gas prices may be high, but democracy is priceless.
Lost touch with reality
This is for Mr. “Off your rocker.” It must be awfully hard to accept the fact that you have been conned. Take solace in the fact that it was by one of the world’s greatest con men. Trump’s own people recognized the loss. Rudy Guilliani said, “We have lots of theories, we just don’t have the evidence.” Because there is no real evidence. Maybe you and Mr. Guilliani will regain your senses. He was once a great man who has lost touch with reality.
Money matters
To the person that wants to know who is going to pay for the abortions: Who is going to pay for the birth, and raising the unwanted babies for years to come that these women are forced to have? And for your information, not all woman are able to use birth control pills due to health reasons.
Maybe there is hope?
Thanks to the contributor who said they will only vote for politicians that have a proven record of working with the opposing party. Amen to that. I was considering never voting again due to the extremists on both sides. But this has reopened my eyes to looking for that person again. Maybe there is hope?
DNA tests at birth
With the new SCOTUS ruling that abortion will be up to individual states — and many states moving to make abortion illegal — I think that all males should be required to do a DNA test at birth so that, in the case where a woman is forced to carry a rapist baby to term, the father can be found, charged with rape and made to pay for the well-being for the child, and not the victim of the rape or the taxpayer.
Junk cars and noisy mufflers
What is with all the piece of junk cars driving around Waukegan with loud mufflers, or the cars that backfire? It sounds like gunshots sometimes. I also imagine it is not too environmentally friendly, and totally defeats the purpose of an exhaust system. The owners of such cars must hate clean air. Not to mention it is a nuisance and creates noise pollution. I think when people take their cars in for emission testing, the people checking cars should rev up the gas and see if the cars are too loud or backfire. If they do, the owner shouldn’t be able to renew their registration until it’s fixed. Same goes for the jerks with big diesel trucks that blow clouds of coal. You are not impressing anyone, and people usually laugh at you. Maybe it makes up for the lack of manhood, if you know what I mean.
Lake County is paradise
We’re all so lucky to live in Lake County. The proof is in Talk of the County. People rant and whine a lot, but very little is over local issues. Why? Because Lake County is perfect. Living here, we have so little to complain about. Once in a while there’s a comment about Waukegan or Beach Park, but that’s just to throw the dogs a bone. Lake County is paradise.
Imagine that
If anyone doesn’t agree with Republicans, they are automatically labeled “woke mob” or “pedophile” or “commie” or “unpatriotic.” I guess both sides call each other names. And when have Democrats ever cried that an election was illegitimate? They didn’t even make a stink in 2000 when Al Gore was denied the presidency, even though he won popular vote and only lost the Electoral College by 537 votes in Florida whose governor was the brother of George W., and don’t tell me that doesn’t look like something from a banana republic. The Supreme Court at the time thought a recount would just be too disruptive to the peaceful transfer of power. Imagine that.
Fortunate
Residents of northeastern Illinois are fortunate to have the dedicated police departments and officers who cooperated and investigated the unfortunate incident which occurred in Highland Park during the city’s Fourth of July parade.
Good professional police work
The alert North Chicago police officer who observed and followed the suspect’s vehicle, and by using good judgment — taking care to have adequate police support in place to assist taking him into custody alive to face trial — deserves special recognition. Good professional police work by all.
We pay for it
I am so tired of hearing women lament that they are a “single mom.” A true “single mom ” is either a widow or divorced. However, this term has evolved to include unwed women who become pregnant. They call themselves “single mothers” when in fact they are “unwed mothers.” This opens up a plethora of benefits for them from the government and we pay for it.
