After watching a clip of Sen. J.D. Vance (R) trying to blow off threats from Jan. 6 rioters who wanted to lynch former Vice President Mike Pence, the CNN "State of the Union" panel burst into laughter at his stumbling defense.

Speaking with CNN's Kaitlan Collins earlier in the week, the Ohio Republican said he was "skeptical" Pence's life was threatened during the Capitol insurrection where a gallows was built.

After Collins reminded him of the "Hang Mike Pence" chants, he stumbled then claimed, "Well, Kaitlan, did a few people say some bad things? Sure. But do we blame Donald Trump for every bad thing that’s ever been said by a participant in American democracy? I think that’s an absurd standard.”

Sunday, a smirking Jake Tapper asked former Donald Trump official Marc Lotter what he thought of Vance, reportedly a Donald Trump VP candidate.

"You worked for Pence, what do you think?" the CNN host asked his guest.

"I mean, I don't think it was well answered," Lotter dryly replied which led conservative Jonah Goldberg, former Obama adviser Ashley Allison and ex-Joe Biden official Kate Bedingfield to all burst out laughing.

Goldberg chimed in with a sarcastic, "It was just a little light hanging," which added to the mirth, while Bedingfield contributed, "It's just a casual thing."
