Assistant Foreign Minister Miao Deyu Attends the Forum on Developing Countries and International Law and the Seminar Commemorating the 70th Anniversary of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence

On April 23, 2024, Assistant Foreign Minister Miao Deyu attended the opening ceremony of the Second Forum on Developing Countries and International Law and the Seminar Commemorating the 70th Anniversary of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence in Beijing and delivered remarks.

Miao said that the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence vividly reflect the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter, and began the historical process of developing countries defending their national independence and sovereignty and establishing a new type of international relations. As the world enters a new period of turbulence and changes, President Xi Jinping has creatively put forward the important vision of building a community with a shared future for mankind, calling on the international community to work together to build an open, inclusive, clean, and beautiful world that enjoys lasting peace, universal security, and common prosperity. China has always been a steadfast member of the Global South, and is willing to work together with the vast developing countries to carry forward the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, strengthen the development of the international rule of law, steer the right course, row with one heart, brave winds and waves, and create a better future for human society.

The participating experts conducted in-depth discussions, calling for the promotion of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, joint efforts to address global challenges, and the establishment of a fairer, and more equitable and reasonable international order for humanity's common interests.

The forum was co-hosted by the Chinese Society of International Law, Wuhan University Institute of International Law, and the Asian Academy of International Law. Nearly 300 people, including renowned international law experts and scholars, legal officials from 31 countries including the UK, France, Ireland, Spain, Brazil, South Africa, and Malaysia, as well as ambassadors and counselors of over 70 countries such as Syria, Niger, Bolivia, and Myanmar to China, attended the forum.
