Tajikistan leads Central Asia in explosive ordnance disposal training
The Regional Explosive Hazards Training Center (REHTC) of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Tajikistan (MoD) hosted a regional training on Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Level 2, marking a significant step in enhancing Central Asia’s capabilities in mitigating explosive threats. The comprehensive training, which began on 28 April and ran until 16 May, was led by expert instructors from Tajikistan, underscoring the region’s growing self-sufficiency in this critical field. Logistical and financial support for the training was provided by the OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe through its extra budgetary contributions to Integrated Co-operation on Explosive Hazards (ICExH) program from the United States and Germany.
The EOD Level 2 training was designed to equip participants with advanced skills and knowledge essential for safely identifying, handling, and disposing of explosive ordnance. The initiative reflects regional efforts to jointly address persistent dangers posed by explosive ordnance, thereby enhancing the safety and security of communities across Central Asia. Quality management and quality control for the training are being rigorously provided by U.S. Army Central (USARCENT) and the Belgian Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations and Training of Belgian Armed Forces.
Further complementing these efforts, the Regional Explosive Hazards Training Center also hosted a Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) Tier 2 training from 19 to 23 May, delivered by American instructors. This specialized medical training will further enhance the ability of regional personnel to provide immediate life-saving care in hazardous environments.
In a further development on 28 April, coinciding with the commencement of the EOD Level 2 training, the OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe handed over a newly constructed water well at the training center to REHTC and MoD leadership. This vital infrastructure will provide a sustainable water supply for the facility and significantly enhance its capacity to accommodate students, further strengthening the center’s role as a regional hub for explosive hazards training.
